Dr. Mike Brunet II is the Program Director of Athletic Training at Louisiana College. He is an exercise physiologist, a certified and licensed athletic trainer, a certified personal trainer and a strength training specialists. Mike earned both his master degree in Exercise Physiology and doctorate in Sports Medicine from the University of Virginia where he worked with UVA’s Olympic Sports as well as continued his personal training with at-risk populations in the community. As a health care provider, Mike has worked with clients that have special needs (orthopedic, metabolic, and nutritional) as well as the well trained athlete who wanted to gain an edge on the competition. Additionally, he competes in marathons, triathlons and road races of varying distances.

As a writer, he has published numerous articles and also serves as a guest manuscript reviewer for multiple journals. Regarding his grant writing involvement, Mike has written a number of grants in the educational, health care, public and private sectors. Furthermore, he continually reviews grants for the South East Athletic Trainers Association as the Chair of the Louisiana Athletic Trainer’s Association Research and Development Committee. He has given over 40 lectures on health at local organizations, state, district and national conventions as well as being a consultant for organizations like CHRISTUS St. Frances Cabrini Hospital and the Rapides Foundation.

Dr. Mike Brunet is a practicing orthopedic surgeon at Midstate Orthopedics in Alexandria, LA. Dr. Brunet was the Director of Sports Medicine Fellowship and a tenured professor at Tulane University. Other hospital affiliations included Memorial Medical Hospital, Huey P Long Memorial Charity Hospital, Veterans Administration Medical Center, Charity Hospital of Louisiana, and Touro Infirmary. He also served as Team Physician to Tulane University, Xavier University, Southern University, Dillard University, Delgado University, St. Charles Parish, Plaquemines Parish, Zephers, Brass and was the Medical Director to Orleans Parish schools, St. Benard Parish School System, and New Orleans Public School System. He also is an Independent Evaluator for the NFL Players’ Association Injury Grievance Panel as well as being one of their Retirement System Evaluators. Some of his many scholarly awards and honors include Hall of Fame Inductee for the Louisiana Athletic Trainer’s Association, Honorary Member of the National Athletic Trainer’s Association, Southeast Athletic Trainer’s Association Sports Medicine Person of the Year, and was awarded the National Athletic Trainer’s Association’s President’s Challenge Award (highest award the NATA gives). Along with 19 society memberships, Dr. Brunet has also been very actively involved in research. This is evident as he has over 40 publications, numerous text chapters, many awarded grants, and a long list of professional presentations given all over the world.
